Planning
A special report on planning
Scotland’s strategy for the long-term development of its towns, cities and countryside – the National Planning Framework - identifies the strategic infrastructure that will be necessary over the next 20 years. It also aims to allow for investment to be directed so that each part of the country can develop to its full potential.
The second framework, NPF2, updates Scotland’s position, identifies key ambitions and provides more detail of the challenges in implementing the strategy.
NPF2 has been the subject of widespread consultation. Over the summer, the Government is analysing the responses it has received and plans to publish a report on the consultation this autumn. The proposed Framework will then be scrutinised by Parliament and, taking into account modifications, will be published in its final form in early 2009.
Is the Framework fit for purpose? How easily will it be implemented? Is it robust enough to withstand changing economic conditions? Are the resources in place to fulfill its aims?
This special report features expert commentary from planners, business, the building industry, academia and the Scottish Government on the key issues surrounding planning’s role in shaping our environment and in encouraging sustainable economic growth. It also explores issues raised by planning controversies surrounding windfarms and Donald Trump's plan to build a golf course in the north-east.
