Subscription circulation
The magazine is sold on annual subscription only and is not available on newsstands. Our paid subscription of just under 1500 copies, 27% of the total circulation.
Private sector companies, non government organisations, academic institutions, unions, NHS, Consulates, voluntary and charitable organisations make up the largest part of our subscriber base. It is these corporate communicators and information providers who assist in joining up governance in Scotland.
Controlled distribution
On average 3878 copies are distributed free of charge to verified named individuals. Our distribution lists are added to only from individuals we deem appropriate and require a personal request or direct instructions from their office.
Controlled distribution copies are mailed to elected members and their staff. Politicians receive courtesy copies of Holyrood magazine as they do not pay for media.
We endeavor to convert controlled distribution copies to paid subscription but it is important to our commercial partners that we deliver comprehensive coverage.

Circulation by institution
Holyrood magazine was named as such because it is the seat of power in Scotland and the centrifugal point round which central and local government work and interact with commercial, academic and interest groups.
Parliament
Less than 10% of our circulation are distributed within The Scottish Parliament building they are core to the magazine and our commercial partners. All MP’s in Westminster, MEP’s, Scottish peers in the Lords and their staff receive Holyrood ensuring full coverage of parliamentarians who have constituency interests in Scottish issues.
The Scottish Government, their agencies and the Scotland Office have experienced changes in both leadership and structure. The value of Holyrood magazine to this audience is again emphasised by the fact that we have bulk subscription sales agreements with officials at Holyrood and at the Scottish Government. We also distribute copies throughout Whitehall departments with jurisdiction over Scottish issues and UK Government Agencies.
Unilateral Local Authorities
Half of our circulation goes into the 32 Scottish Unilateral Local Authorities to Councillors, Chief Executives, their offices and tier 1,2 and 3 management teams in arrangement with SOLACE. The political triangle between Parliament, central and local government is complete.
Circulation by professional interest
By categorising the primary area of interest of our readers and subscribers by job title we can estimate coverage of each although most will have other areas of interest.
Over 20% of our circulation have as a key interest housing, economic development, regeneration, planning issues or industry which dispels the myth that business in Scotland is not interested in government.
The general and unallocated figure of 17% is made up of political, consular, media, administrative and multi interest groups who by definition cut across a number of areas.
Additional circulation
Holyrood magazine currently is not circulated to English, Welsh or Northern Irish MP’s. As the issues of Britishness, the West Lothian question and constitutional reform is debated at Westminster we will work towards ensuring that all MP’s who debate any issue effecting Scotland receive a copy of Holyrood magazine.
The Holyrood Political Guide is distributed to all MP’s at their Westminster address and all Irish MLA’s and Welsh MA’s.
Should there be any reserved element to your campaign that requires communication with MP’s we can add contact details at the Palace of Westminster, likewise should your remit extend to Northern Ireland or Wales.
Should you require your client base to receive a copy of Holyrood magazine with your advertisement we can add their details to our circulation list.
N.B. We do not resell any of our data but can sometimes advise and offer appropriate data to our commercial partners.
